What is Dental Sedation?
With dental sedation, we have a variety of techniques at our disposal to help reduce discomfort during dental procedures. Our dentists can help you determine if a dental sedation option is a suitable choice for you.
At Pembroke Dental, our dental team strives to help patients feel comfortable during their dental appointments.
Along with offering dental sedation options we will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them and provide reassurance as required.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide can help calm patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. Inhaled through the mouth and nose, it tends to lessen anxiety, reduce gag reflex, make time pass more quickly and increase pain threshold.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form to be taken before a dental appointment. While you'll be awake for the procedure, there will be a sedative effect that may cause feelings of relaxation and reduce any discomfort caused by dental treatments.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives offer the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. These sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream. You will be attached to a monitor, so the dentist can track your vital signs during the procedure.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia offers a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates awareness, movement and discomfort during dental treatment. Complex treatments can be completed in one appointment while you are asleep.
