Oral Examinations
Ideally twice a year, you'll come to see us for a regular oral exam. These sessions allow your dentist the opportunity to identify any oral health issues and develop a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will check the health of your gums, teeth, bite and jaw. Exams can also include dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues can be impacted by oral cancer. The dentist will examine your face, neck, throat, tongue, lips, gums and tissues for any signs of oral cancer. These can be difficult for the casual observer to detect.
Oral Health Care at Home
Help to keep your smile healthy between dental appointments by brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time and flossing at least once every day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will clean your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To start, a scaler is used to remove any tartar and plaque buildup. Next, the hygienist polishes the teeth and removes any leftover plaque or stains with a coarse toothpaste, then flosses your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
Do you or your child have a high risk of tooth decay? Your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. This natural mineral can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
